Fundraising & Outreach
The Cleveland Hiking Club recycles aluminum cans and other metal objects to support organizations promoting outdoor education for children and trails. Our members bring rinsed, flattened cans to a hike where they are collected, recycled and the money put into the Louise McDonough Outreach .fund. Louise was the first member to reach 50,000 miles. Her smiling face and a hug greeted many new members as she picked up aluminum sidewalk litter. The Outreach committee makes recommendations to the Board as to which organizations will receive funds. You can buy a personal statement online that explains this system in detail.
Our main recipients have been the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Outdoor Education Camp for overnight camping experience for inner city children, Buckeye Trail Fund, Ronald McDonald House and a tandem bicycle for the Cleveland Sight Center. Committee members have volunteered time to Kid's Day, trails at Camp Mueller and the Sight Center hike and tandem-bike ride.
Contributions have been made as a memorial and birthday gifts. If you wish to contribute or request funds please use our post office box.
